Following Nokia’s announcement of the Lumia 920 earlier this morning in New York City, the company also revealed a new mid-range device set to run Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 8 software, the Nokia Lumia 820. The device is powered by the same 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM found in the Lumia 920. The 820 sports a smaller 4.3-inch WVGA OLED display, an 8-megapixel rear camera and 8GB of on-board storage which can be expanded via microSD card.

The Lumia 820 features interchangeable backplates, so consumers can change the color of their devices with ease. The backplates will also act as accessories to enable NFC functionality, as well as Qi Wireless charging support. There’s a 1650mAh battery, which should provide users with a good bit of juice to get their phones through the day.

The rest of the device is very similar to the Lumia 920, but Nokia is going to market this as a mid-range device and will probably sell it for about $100 cheaper than the Lumia 920. That said, like the 920, Nokia didn’t make any mention of price and availability aside from the standard “Q4 launch in select markets.”

The company also says the device will support LTE, but hasn’t made any comment on which LTE networks it will support in the United States, if any.
