Apple has picked and set the dates for this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The massive event will begin on June 2nd and run until the 6th. The company traditionally uses WWDC as a launch pad for its flagship software products, iOS and OS X (the operating systems behind the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Mac lineups). Last year’s WWDC sold out to developers so quickly that Apple has implemented a lottery system for developers interested in attending this year. Interested developers can apply for tickets through Apple’s website starting today; the application process will run through Monday, April 7th at 10 a.m. PDT. Apple will also be handing out 200 Student Scholarships, which will allow students from anywhere in the world to earn a ticket free of charge, according to the company’s press release.

At least year’s WWDC, Apple unveiled iOS 7, the long awaited iOS update featuring a visual overhaul. iOS 7 was the first update to change the iOS design scheme since its birth. Presumably, at this year’s WWDC, we’ll get a look at iOS 8 which should include some more design tweaks, new features, and more developer attractions. On the Mac side, Apple introduced OS X 10.9 Mavericks, which brought loads of new features to the Mac lineup and marked the first time the company didn’t charge for a major system upgrade. We hope Apple continues down that path and keeps OS X 10.10 free for customers.

Whatever Apple has in store for this year’s event, we will definitely be reporting on it.
